Philippine GUARDIANS Brotherhood, Inc. (PGBI) Celebrates 128th Independence Anniversary in Reflection of Ongoing Struggles for True Freedom

Manila, Philippines – June 12, 2026 — As the Philippines commemorates its 128th Independence Day, the Philippine GUARDIANS Brotherhood, Inc. (PGBI) underscores the complex reality that, despite centuries of freedom from colonial rule, the nation still faces numerous challenges that threaten genuine independence and sovereignty.

The annual celebration, traditionally marked by fireworks, parades, and patriotic speeches, takes on a deeper significance this year for PGBI members and advocates. They emphasize that true independence is more than a historical milestone; it is an ongoing struggle against social injustices, economic inequalities, and political corruption that continue to hinder the Filipino people’s full sovereignty.

PGBI, a prominent organization committed to promoting unity, discipline, and social responsibility among Filipinos, highlights that the nation’s independence remains fragile. “While we celebrate the 128th year of freedom from colonial powers, we cannot ignore the realities that many Filipinos still live under oppressive systems, economic hardships, and political instability,” said PGBI National Leader, Melliardine “GS MEL” G. Gamet.

He pointed out that issues such as poverty, lack of access to quality education, and the pervasive influence of foreign interests in local affairs undermine genuine independence. “True sovereignty is exercised when Filipinos are free from economic dependence and social inequality,” GS MEL added. Furthermore, he expressed concern that the ongoing style of the Philippine government is getting worse against the Filipinos, with policies increasingly favoring elite interests at the expense of the common people. In as much, the corruption all over the branches of government is the biggest problem not being addressed by the government, further weakening the nation’s integrity and progress. There must be a leader to lead reclaiming our sovereignty and stop the rampant corruptions.

PGBI advocates for fostering a sense of guardianship among Filipinos—encouraging citizens to take responsibility for the nation’s future. The organization believes that patriotism must translate into active participation in community development, good governance, and the protection of national interests.

“As guardians of our land and future generations, we must remain vigilant and proactive in defending our sovereignty—whether from external threats or internal vulnerabilities,” GS MEL  emphasized.

A Call to Action

In light of the ongoing challenges, PGBI calls on fellow Filipinos to reflect on the true meaning of independence. The organization urges increased civic engagement, support for policies that promote national welfare, and the cultivation of a collective consciousness that prioritizes the country’s sovereignty over short-term gains.

As the nation celebrates its 128th independence anniversary, PGBI’s message resonates strongly: independence is not just a historical event but a continuous effort. It is a call for Filipinos to reclaim their sovereignty, advocate for social justice, and build a nation where true freedom and independence flourish.

The Philippine GUARDIANS Brotherhood, Inc. reminds everyone that the spirit of independence must be rekindled every day. Only through unity, vigilance, and active guardianship can the Philippines move closer to realizing the ideals of true sovereignty and freedom for all its citizens.
