PGBI Traditions and Cultures

The Philippine GUARDIANS Brotherhood, Inc. (PGBI) is a community rooted in rich traditions and shared cultural practices that foster strong bonds, discipline, and a sense of identity among its members. These traditions serve as the foundation of the brotherhood, guiding members in their daily interactions, ceremonies, and collective activities.

Ceremonial Recognition
One of the most significant customs in PGBI is the ceremonial initiation of new members. This rite of passage symbolizes their official acceptance into the brotherhood and is marked by symbolic rituals emphasizing loyalty, brotherhood, and the values upheld by the organization. A notable aspect of this initiation is the dunking or baptizing performed by a Founder, which symbolizes purification and a renewed commitment to the brotherhood’s principles.

Prayers and Songs
Before every gathering or activity, members recite the GUARDIANS Prayer, reinforcing their spiritual unity and focus. At the end of each activity, the GUARDIANS Song is sung collectively, fostering a sense of pride and belonging among members.

Respectful Greetings and Symbols
Members greet each other with respectful gestures such as handshakes or nods, often accompanied by chants or cheers that promote unity. During meetings, members wear prescribed uniforms or symbols that visually represent their brotherhood, fostering discipline and pride.

The GUARDIANS’ Wine
A unique and sacred tradition involves the introduction and drinking of the GUARDIANS’ Wine. Crafted exclusively by the Founder, this special beverage blends nine symbolic ingredients representing unity and strength. The Founder personally prepares this wine, which is shared during gatherings to symbolize collective purpose and camaraderie.

Marking of Membership
Members mark their middle palm and right shoulder with ink, paint, or sacred materials. These markings symbolize their commitment, loyalty, and readiness to serve and uphold the brotherhood’s principles at all times. Each mark holds deep meaning, representing their journey and dedication.

Attire and Symbols
Uniformity is an essential aspect of PGBI culture. Members are required to wear specific uniforms during activities, which reinforce discipline, unity, and pride. Symbols and attire serve as visual identifiers of membership and brotherhood identity.

Cultural Practices and Respect
Members greet each other with gestures of respect, such as a handshake or a nod, often reinforced with chants or cheers. However, practices such as lower ranks placing their hands on higher ranks’ foreheads—once common—are now discouraged, as they conflict with the core principle of EQUALITY that the organization upholds.

Preservation of Traditions
Over generations, some traditions have been misunderstood or misapplied. The organization emphasizes the importance of practicing rituals correctly, maintaining the integrity of their customs, and respecting the original teachings passed down by founders and elders.

Community and Bonding
Shared meals, communal prayers, and songs are integral to PGBI gatherings, strengthening bonds among members. These activities foster camaraderie and serve as reminders of their collective purpose and values.

In Summary, the traditions and cultures of PGBI are deeply intertwined with their rituals, symbols, and shared practices. These customs cultivate discipline, unity, respect, and brotherhood, ensuring the organization’s core values are preserved and passed down through generations.
